15 Unmissable Acts @ Bloc Weekend: Pariah

Pariah is, to our ears, one of the most talented young producers working in the UK today. His made his name with his debut single, the choppy Dilla-inspired banger ‘Detroit Falls’, but his debut EP ‘Safehouses’ followed the musical direction of the B-side, Orpheus – an atmospheric garagy sound that (he must hate hearing) is heavily indebted to Burial.

Safehouses was a triumph, with Pariah forging his own sound from the same musical world of Untrue, which he cites as his first major electronic influence. Tracks like The Slump, in which a very bassy and tribal 808 beat morphs into a atmospheric vocal and synth middle – and Railroad with lovely skipping garage drums were a very individual take on familiar sounds.

Pariah has a new EP out on R&S entitled Rift, from which you can hear Signal Loss below, a beautifully restrained track, full of falling pianos and lovely restrained beats. With each release he has updated and progressed his style, and this could be the time for him to make the step to the big league. We think he is one of the artists to look out for at Bloc this year and have included a spotify playlist of his highlights below, as well as a few other tracks not on spotify, and his Boiler Room mix, which should give you an idea of the kind of set he plays. We are very excited about this one.
